Eat a balanced diet in the three days
prior to your surgery. Vitamin C is a building block of tissue.
Your nutrition and vitamin intake can significantly influence your
rate of healing.

Refrain from smoking. Cigarette smoke
inhibits tissue healing and is a risk factor for anesthesia.

Do not eat or drink any fluids after 12
p.m. the night prior to your surgery.

If you normally take medication in the
morning, take them with just a small sip of water.

Do not swallow water while brushing
your teeth.

Wear loose fitting clothes.

Leave all jewelry and valuables at
home.

Remove all toenail polish.

Some patients will have their x-rays
taken for a second opinion or will have had a history and physical
exam performed outside our office. Unless other arrangements have
been made please bring these with you to the hospital.

If you do not have a post-operative
appointment, please contact our office after your surgery.

If you have been informed that you will
need crutches, please bring them with you the day of surgery.

The Medical Center of Newark will call
you after 2:00pm the day prior to your scheduled surgery date with
an arrival time for your surgery. Any facility questions you have,
please call the number on the pamphlet in your surgery folder
