Prescription Orthotics
Prescription orthotics are
custom made arch supports that are individually manufactured from a cast
taken of the feet. The science of orthotics involves a number of
steps. The initial cast is called a negative cast. This cast
is filled with plaster to form a positive c ast
that is a plaster model of the foot. The positive cast is used to
manufacture the orthotic.
The manufacturing of the
orthotic requires experience in casting techniques, manufacturing of the
device and selection of materials for the orthotic. Tuning and
adjustments to the orthotic may be necessary upon dispensing the
orthotic.
Our office has an in-house
orthotics lab. Our in-house lab is beneficial in
a number of ways. Not only is our turn-around time faster than
most labs, but we can also keep our prices down by cutting out the
'middle man'. Also, we use the lab for on-the-spot adjustments of
orthotics.
Our office takes a careful
history and physical to determine whether you are a good candidate for
Rx orthotics. Our orthotics are durable and well tolerated by
athletes and patients who spend extended periods of time on their feet.
